PTCL Upgrades All DSL Users to At Least 4Mbps Package

Little late than earlier planned, PTCL has finally announced that it is capable of offering its entire DSL broadband subscribers’ base with at least 4Mbps broadband speeds.
Consequently, all 1Mbps and 2Mbps (both regular and student) broadband subscribers are automatically upgraded to 4Mbps speeds.

Twitter: Photos Now In Direct Messages

Twitter users can now send pictures privately to their followers using the direct message (DM) function.
Images previously sent by DM had to be viewed via the external twitpic site, but now users can see them from within the message.
The move is seen as an attempt to broaden the way the service is used and compete with the popularity of messaging services such as WhatsApp and Snapchat.

PIA to Offer In-Flight WiFi and Cellular Roaming Services

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has plans to start offering in-flight WiFi Internet and mobile phone services for long-haul international routes, reported Express Tribune.
Report, citing Mr. Junaid Yunus, PIA’s Managing Director,  said that initially the services will be deployed on PIA’s nine Boeing 777s that fly to Europe, US and Canada.

Etisalat Never Approached Transworld for Buyout: VP Transworld

Etisalat has not contacted Transworld or its parent groups for buyout, confirmed us Mr. Zulfiqar Qazilbash, VP Commercial, Transworld.
ProPakistani had contacted Transworld for confirmations after at least two media outlets yesterday reported that Etisalat is in final talks with Transworld for acquiring its operations in Pakistan.

“The news appearing in media that Etisalat has made an offer to acquire Transworld and its operations in Pakistan is incorrect. Etisalat has not made any such offer nor is the Board of Directors considering any such offer at this time”, said Mr. Qazilbash in a communication with ProPakistani.

Google's Latest Venture Aims to Extend Human Life

Google is known for setting out to pursue crazy goals and then achieving them. The latest one is not much different either.
The new company formed by the internet greats called Calico will work out on how to extend our lives and research more on our well-being. It will be headed by current Apple Chairman Arthur D. Levinson and marks the first time in years that the two companies have collaborated on a single project.

2.8 Million Pakistani Users Access Facebook on Mobile Phones [Inforgraphic]

Pakistan is a huge country when it comes to mobile phone subscribers. In fact Pakistan ranks 7th in the world with its 125 million subscribers.
A large number – out of these 125 million cellphone users — now access the internet through their phones and Facebook is one of the most popular sites they visit.
Stats shared by Facebook itself suggest that 2.8 million mobile users from Pakistan – out of 10.8 million total Faebook users from Pakistan or almost one third of Facebook users – access the website through their handheld phones.
These stats also hint the segments of mobile phone users in the country.

Why Filtering Internet the Right Way is Necessary?

Filtering internet is nothing new to the world. More than 95 percent of the world markets (where internet is available) filter the internet to make sure that the content available over internet is in-line with their social values and local laws.
Almost every country — from USA to Singapore and from Sweden to South Africa and beyond –  filter internet based on their needs and laws.
Some countries block child pornography while others block explicit content or the websites hurting the national agendas of respective countries.

Facebook introduces shared photo albums


Facebook is introducing a new feature that lets multiple users upload pictures to the same shared photo album. When users create a new photo album, they'll have the option to "add contributors" with a new button on the upper left hand corner of the page, as Mashable reports. The original creator of the photo album can add up to 50 contributors, each of whom can upload up to 200 photos to one album. There's also new privacy settings, letting the album creator share with just their contributors, the contributors' Friends, or the public at large.

KFC Pakistan Website Gets Suspended Again for Exceeding Bandwidth Limits

The official website of KFC Pakistan, a fast-food chain with 68 outlets in 19 cities throughout Pakistan, today got suspended after it exceeded its bandwidth limit for the ongoing month.
Users opening KFCPakistan.com are greeted with a system message saying that server can’t show you website because the website owner has exceeded his/her bandwidth limit.

Mark Zuckerberg and Others Join Hands to Bring Internet to Remaining 5 Billion People

Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO and founder of Facebook has immersed himself in a new campaign. This project, however, might prove to be much harder than any other one he has faced up till now. He has embarked on a mission to bring the internet to the remaining 2/3rd population of the world who aren’t connected.
And Zuckerberg aims to get these remaining 5 billion people to internet through their phones (read smartphones).
